The Indian Society for Wind Engineering was established in 1993 to bring various Wind Engineering Research groups in the country under a single banner to provide a forum for mutual growth and better interaction among the wind engineering fraternity in India under the able guidance of Professor Prem Krishna. Since then the society has made substantial progress in generating awareness among the designers for consideration of wind loads on various types of wind sensitive structures and several similar issues. The Society is dedicated to providing a crucial platform for individuals and institutions involved in industrial aerodynamics, encompassing areas such as wind effects on structures and buildings, land and sea transportation vehicles, disaster mitigation from cyclones, tornadoes, and other extreme weather events, wind energy generation, and atmospheric pollution studies. By facilitating the exchange of ideas, the Society aims to advance and disseminate knowledge in the field of Wind Engineering. It actively promotes research and development, maintaining strong connections with international organizations with similar objectives. The Society also strives to incorporate research findings into professional practices and encourages the participation of field engineers and professional organizations through seminars and symposia. Additionally, it publishes a periodical to share developments in the field and institutes awards and prizes to recognize outstanding research and application in Wind Engineering.
