The Indian Society for Wind Engineering: A Timeline of Milestones

The Indian Society for Wind Engineering (ISWE) was established in 1993 to bring various wind engineering research groups in India together under a single banner. Under the able guidance of Professor Prem Krishna, the society has made substantial progress in raising awareness among designers about the importance of considering wind loads on wind-sensitive structures. Below are some of the major activities and milestones in the society's journey:

  • 9th International Conference on Wind Engineering – 1995
  • Course on Wind Tunnel Testing of Chimneys and Tall Buildings – 1996
  • Workshop on Wind Tunnel Testing of Structures – 1996
  • National Competition on Wind Resistant Housing Designs – 1999
  • First National Conference on Wind Engineering – 2002
  • International Workshop on Wind Engineering & Sciences – 2004
  • 3rd Workshop on Regional Harmonisation of Wind Loading and Wind Environmental Specifications in Asia Pacific Economies (3rd APEC-WW) – 2006
  • Best Research Publication Award on Wind Engineering – Instituted every year
  • National Seminar on Wind Engineering at IIT Kharagpur – December 1999
  • Second National Conference on Wind Engineering at VNIT, Nagpur – 2004
  • Third National Conference on Wind Engineering at Jadavpur University, Kolkata – 2006
  • Fourth National Conference on Wind Engineering (Proposed, SERC, Chennai) – 2007

Publications

The ISWE publishes a biannual journal, the "Journal of Wind and Engineering", which features contributions from eminent international experts. The journal encourages members to submit their research and development findings for publication.

News Letter

The society also produces a newsletter that informs its members about upcoming and ongoing activities related to wind engineering, keeping them updated on the latest developments.

International Recognition

In October 2004, ISWE was conferred with membership in the International Association for Wind Engineering (IAWE), marking a significant milestone in its international recognition.
